Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank your asking at HCM.

I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Because you have softer stools with mucus it is probably the cause your have the itchyness in the anal area also.
It is very important for us to know how often you have a bowel movement and if you have some other symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, blood with stools, fever, general weakness. Are there other people around you with similar symptoms?
Do you have rectal intercourse? If this is the case you will need to have a check with your doctor as soon as possible to rule out sexually transmitted infections (you should not do the following measures in this case, but see a doctor).

If you are having the diarrhea for 3-4 weeks now I would recommend you to avoid milk for a week or so and if no improvement than you will need to have some tests to check for parasites in the stools, a stool microscopy for leucocytes present should be done also and stool test for Giarda antigen.

The water and mineral changes should not normally cause problems with softer stools but if you get exposed to any kind of infection in the new area might cause stool changes.

If the itchyness is bad in the area you can use a cream that has a steroid (will help with the irritation locally) and an antifungal (will help with yeast infection locally if it is developed due to moist because of the mucus secretions).

If no improvement in a week with the milk avoidance and the local anal cream (steroid+antifungal) than you need to have the above tests done.

Hope this is helpful to you and answers to your question.

Kind regards

Thank you for your replay.

I do not engage in rectal Intercourse. Nor do i have abdominal pain, blood in stool (not that i could see), no fever or bloating. I have had fatigue however put that down to poor sleep patterns due to work needs. I pass a bowel movement daily.. sometimes twice.

Brief Answer:
We need to rule out milk intolerance, than tests are needed

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the reply and information provided. It is very helpful.

By what you say than we can reduce the number of possible causes, not considering some of the ones mentioned.

Still milk intolerance and parasite infections are likely so I would recommend you to rule out milk intolerance first by avoiding milk intake for 1-2 weeks (you can have yogurt and cheese) than if no improvement or any worsening please have the mentioned tests done: stools for ova and parasites, stool microscopy for leucocyte count, giardia stool antigen, fat amount in stools. Some other tests that might be helpful is CBC with ERS.

After the results of these tests there will be more specific information related to possible cause.

Meanwhile try to have a healthy diet with fruit and vegetable and avoid such, fat, fried food and junk food, drink plenty.

Hope this is helpful.
I wish you quick healing.

Kind regards,

Dr Antoneta Zotaj
