What Causes Itching Sensation In The Urethra?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Oct 2016
Question: Hi - I have a very slight urethral itch. It's barely noticeable but comes back when I pee. I'm just wondering whether this is a UTI or could be STD related or other. I don't think it's STD related because I've been having safe sex since the last time I got tested.
If it's a UTI, do I need to get tested/medicated or should I just wait until it goes away

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and description, it appears to be due to inflammation of the urethra know as urethritis. An infective cause should be ruled out first. Urine routine examination should be done and a local exam to look for possible erosions or lesions should also be carried out. Avoid sexual intercourse and other activities that may strain the urethral region. Drink liberal amount of fluids/ water. Your family physician can start empiric antibiotic therapy if the urine exam is significant for pus cells and wbcs or rbcs that indicate urinary tract infection.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
