Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Single localized area on skin can be caused by different things. A picture is very important to determine the cause of skin lesions but a list of them with the specific characteristics I am mentioning below:
1. if it is a clearly red area with well defined borders and hard to consistency and mild-moderate painful than bacterial infection is the most likely cause, called erisipella. it might be treated with local treatments as you tried but if no improvement than oral antibiotics are needed. Augmentine or cephalexine would be good chooses if not allergic to them.
2. impetiho is another bacterial infection but is superficial and causes oozing and yellow crusts, local antibiotics are sufficient most of the times but if not than oral antibiotics mentioned above are recommended. Local antibiotics should be used 3-4 times a day to have an effect.
3. If the area is red, clear defined borders and is not painful but itchy than fungal infection or dermatitis is thought and in this case a combination cream with antifungal and steroid twice a day for a week might help. please don't use steroid cream alone as it might worsen funfal infection if it is this the cause.
4. trying to keep the area clean and not poke the lesion but apply hydrating cream and SPF protection cream during the day might be advisable.
I hope this is helpful and answers to your question but please feel free to reply if more clarification is needed on this. Uploading a picture or two might be very helpful in this case.
Kind regards
