What Causes Itchy Bumps Around A Wound?
Question: I have been putting Neosporin and a bandaid on this scratch for at least a week. It looks like it is healing but all around it are multiple bumps that itch like crazy. It was getting infected before - but no longer finding pus on the bandaid. What is this?

The picture is not showing much. I am thinking maybe I am having an allergic reaction to the bandaids that I have been putting on this constantly - trying to drive out the infection with antibiotic cream. My skin is very thin from years of sun damage - I live in Florida. I have 2 puppies that accidently scratch me as soon as one spot clears, I get another. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't getting infected under the skin. This was hard to heal - it was very sore last weekend - could hardly make a fist. There was a hard lump there. But it seems to be healing now. Just the bumps and itch now.
Brief Answer:
The wound is healed.
Detailed Answer:
Well, it looks almost healed. The wound is closed. So no need to use any antibiotic. Moreover, antibiotics in creams do not work for such infections. So most likely your immune system did the work. No need to use any bandages either. As the skin is closed, there is nothing that should be covered.
Itching is a very common sign of healing.
Allergic reaction is of course possible, however on the image I can see only well healed wound.
So the best you can do is to leave it alone.

Okay. I have left it alone. I wanted to keep it covered until the yellow area dried up. My pups also some to lick my "boo-boos". The little itchy bumps have sort of joined to become 2 larger bumps and the itching has decreased. thanks
