What Causes Itchy Rashes All Over Body?
antihistamine, avoid triggers, give more details
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I went through your history and would like to know more about you like:
a. Have you ever had angioedema (swelling of lips, face, other parts of body)? Does such swelling ever occur with rashes?
b. Do you have any other allergies like - nose allergies, asthma, food allergies, etc? If yes, please provide more details.
c. Do you have symptoms like repeated stomach pain, constipation, diarrhoea, itching around anus, etc?
d. Do you have any other medical condition? Do you have to take any drugs frequently/regularly?
e. Is your skin usually dry or oily? Do you sweat excessively?
f. Do you have more rashes after going to sun or after physical exercise or after excessive sweating?
g. Is mental stress an important factor in your life? Do your rashes worsen with stress?
Above details will help me to know about your complaints better and therefore I would be able to help you more specifically. Please provide above details on follow-up.
At present, I would like to make suggestions for you as follows:
1. As you have repeated rashes for last 4 months, I would first think of "chronic urticaria".
There are many causes of chronic urticaria like physical factors (exercise, cold exposure, contact with water, pressure, vibration, sun exposure, etc), intestinal worms, allergies, some medical conditions and some drugs.
Hence it is important to identify the cause of your symptoms.
2. I usually suggest my such patients investigations like complete blood counts, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), C-Reactive Protein (CRP), serum SGPT, urine analysis and stool analysis.
I would suggest you to upload your reports, which may provide some clues towards cause.
3. As your symptoms are easily controlled with antihistamines, I would suggest you to continue using any antihistamine like levocetirizine or cetirizine (Zyrtec) or fexofenadine on as-and-when-needed basis for symptoms relief.
Benadryl (that you are already using) is also a good option, but it may cause more sedation and drowsiness as compared to above mentioned drugs.
4. I also suggest my such patients application of lotion like calamine immediately after taking bath to retain moisture in the skin, especially if you have dry skin.
5. In general, I would suggest you to avoid tight-fitting, woolen clothes. Please avoid any of the above mentioned factors if they are worsening your rashes.
6. I would also suggest you to take a good multivitamin-multimineral supplement containing especially vitamin A, vitamin E, Vitamin D, selenium and zinc, which may help improve your skin.
Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.
Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask on follow-up. It will be my humble pleasure to help you with best of my knowledge and experience.
Wish you the best of the health ahead.
Thank you & regards,
