What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Back And Hands While On A Course Of Antibiotics?

Question: Hello I am on my 8th day out of 14 days prescribed treatment for H Pylori, taking 30mg Lansoprazole without food and 500mg each of Clarithromycin and Amoxillin. I have developed a bad rash on my whole back, my hands also started itching. I have read online that antibiotics not necessaryli are more effective 14 days rather than 10. I would prefer not to take them at all. Is 14 days the common course for this? I am also wondering if the same dose is prescribed to most people regardless of weight? I weigh about 129 lbs. I want to stop taking the antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, it is true that the medications for H. Pylori are more effective if taken for 14 days, however, you are allergic to one of the new medications that you are taking. You need to talk to the prescriber of the medicines and see what course of action they would like for you to take.

Fourteen days is the common course but you may need to stop one or more of them due to your allergic reaction. Also, it is true that these antibiotics are not prescribed by weight but are prescribed at the same dose for all adults.

Please talk to your prescribing physician today and find out about what medications they would like for you to stop. Do not ignore this, allergic reactions can become more serious if you continue to take the offending medication.

Hope I have answered your query.
