What Causes Itchy Red Spot On The Left Portion Of Spine?
Question: My 95 year old mother has had a rash , in the shape of a rainbow, that extends across the lower area of her back. when I looked closely, higher than the rash, and not connected to it, there is an indented red oblong mark on the left portion of her spine. There is also swelling around the red spot. She says that is where it itches and most bothersome. Should I be getting her to the Dr again? We did go last week and the Dr. recommended Triamcinolone. She has used this and the redness has diminished. There are still "spots" where the rash was, and it still itches. I had not noticed the spot on the spine until yesterday - about a week after seeing the Dr. Am concerned it may be something we need to pay more attention to. Thank you, XXXXXXX XXXX
Brief Answer:
Kindly send a picture. The "spot" is probably fungal in origin.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX XXXX,
1. The steroid medication "triamcinolone" accelerates the healing process.
2. The red mark, that is newly developed probably has no casual relationship with the initial lesion.
3. You might want to consider an anti fungal cream, as skin lesions that itch usually have a fungal infection behind them.
4. This lesion is in no way sinister, or life threatening. This is a fact. You might want to feel relaxed as regards this aspect of the case.
5. We can make sure of this, if you send a photograph of the lesion to YYYY@YYYY Please write to "Attention: Dr. Neel Kudchadkar"
