Question: I am with my boyfriend of 5 years and from that time there have no issues in sexual life. About 4 months ago, I had a sexual contact with an unknown man but no intercourse happened. After that, when I and my boyfriend had sex, he developed itchy, painful, reddish rashes filled with pus on the penis. These rashes decrease with the application of an ointment bought over the counter but returns again after sex.. I am scared what it might be. I got myself checked with a gynecologist and she said it is a fungal infection after physical examination, but is that enough ? please help.
Brief Answer:
Take proper treatment to prevent recurrence

Hi
I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same .
Now you and your friend seem to have developed a fungal infection .
You both need to take proper and complete treatment for your problem, otherwise the problem tends to turn chronic and recurs again and again.
I would like to know what medicine is your friend applying.
I would suggest you both to use canestan cream twice a day over the affected areas twice a day .
In addition, you might need to take oral antifungals in the form of tablet fluconazole 150 mg once a week for two weeks in case it is available at your place.
Do not apply any other cream or oil over the affected areas .
Hope it helps
Please ask if you need any further clarifications

Do I need to take up STD screening because these problems started after the unknown person contact. If yes, can you suggest me places in Bangalore. I want to be totally clear that this is nothing other than fungal infection which the gynecologist indicated after checking me. Can fungal infection cause such redness, rashes which are itchy and pus filled, though I have no symptoms of any itching or foul discharge, but get some whitish discharge while passing urine.
Brief Answer:
Complete check up required

Hi
From the description that you have provided , a fungal infection called candida is the most likely infection that you both have developed .
In order to confirm, it is important to have a look at the exact skin lesions especially those of your partners.
In females, this infection presents with white curdy discharge along with itching. In males, there can be development of red to white small lesions over the genitals along with whitish discharge causing itching or discomfort .
It is important to examine the area for confirmation of the diagnosis .
I would advise you both to see a local dermatologist for confirmation of diagnosis and further treatment.
In case you had an encounter with an unknown person, it might be necessary to get investigated. A dermatologist would be the appropriate person who can guide you.

Can fungal infection cause no symptoms in a female like me, I have no symptoms at all of any itching or rashes but my partner has itching, redness, small pus filled rashes and pain.
Now as far as your infection is concerned, we cannot be very sure about it unless the area is examined by a doctor. But in females, candida infection is very common and since it is mostly inside the vagina, so in most cases it tends to be asymptomatic in nature . It is mostly diagnosed in couples when there is recurrent infection in either of the partner or it can present with slight whitish discharge in females. The infection is much more obvious in males.
You can always take a second opinion from your local dermatologist .
