What Causes Knee Pain While Bending With A History Of Rashes On Upper Back?
Question: I'm experiencing mild pain when bending my knees. The pain occurs when I squat down and return to a standing position. I have no pain when walking, climbing stairs, or performing other activities. The pain started only a week or so ago. Before the knee pain, I had a red, bumpy rash located on my neck, shoulders, upper back, and behind my ears. The rash lasted about a week. Could the rash and the pain be related? If not, what could be the cause of the knee pain?
Brief Answer:
Synovitis. Needs rest, ice, limb elevation
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
The pain could be due to inflammation of the inner lining of the knee joint called the synovium. This could be related to the fever and rash.
I advise you to apply ice or warm packs, whichever offers better relief. Keep the limbs elevated. Avoid squatting or flexing the knee being your comfort level.
You can take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you for your response, Dr. XXXXXXX Since my last question, I have noticed swelling in my ankles and possibly my feet. The pain in my knee persists, but is still mild and hasn't progressed. Does the recent rash, the knee pain, and the swollen ankles/feet seem indicative of anything? I am about 20 or 30 pounds overweight and have a poor diet/activity level. Does this sound like early symptoms of diabetes?
Brief Answer:
Polyarthralgia
Detailed Answer:
This sounds like symptoms of Polyarthralgia or inflammation of many joints in the body. This could occur due to viral illness as with the rash. Do get evaluated for the infectious cause. Treating the cause so alleviate your joint disorder.
This is not typical of Diabetes, so not to worry.
