What Causes Knee Pain With Bumps On Both Knees?
Question: A few months ago i got up from chair turned wrong way and sprained my knee. I went to primary care dr. And he suggested that is what it sounds like. He recommenede if pain continued to go to orthopedic. It did get better with time. I am a healthy 47 yr old woman but i am overweight and i do need to loose weight. I llost 5 lbs so far with 40 to go.....i do have knee pain thru the years from titme to time and i am sure i have a little arthritis as most do get and weight doesnt help. I am not a lazy heavy person i do move around and ididnt nurse this maybe as i should my question is today in doing chores around the house i felt my both knees achy so i sat for a few when i did i rubbbed my left knee(the same knee i sprained a few months ago) and i felt a painless bump on outer side of knee. My dr wasnt in so i am curious what this can be. My knee does ache on outer part of left knee but when i touch lump feels like a cyst type bump there is no pain. Just curious until i reach my dr on monday. Thank you. XXXXXXX

The cyst like lump can be due to fibrosis of the hematoma that might have happened after the sprain or a benign ganglion or bone cyst that is due to degenerative changes in the knee joint. A direct examination and investigations like MRI scan are the best way to diagnose this.

I have one last question....i have a little anxiety over this and i know you are not able to give me exact answer but from what i wrote it doesnt appear to be any type of bone cancer or anything correct. I dont want to make myself crazy.... i can do that at times. You do think it can be a cyst do to injury a couple off months ago am i correct? I did read something like that online also that some injuries cause a painless cycst on out part of knee that in most cases they dont even operate. I also read it sometimes is a way the body responds to an injury and it can be part of healing process... thank you Dr for easing my mind with this until i get an appointment.
