What Causes Lack Of Concentration While On Prozac And Gabapentin?

Question: yes I hope so, my wife has been having difficulty in concentrating, , she spaces out , she'll be standing in front of a stack of clothes trying to pick something out and then her eyes will close , and then she'll act like she is doing something with her hands , or she'll out of the blue start talking about something that has nothing to do with what we were talking about. She is on some medication, Prozac, gabapentin, hydrocodone bitartrate10/500, corasaprodol (soma),please can you give some direction to go in to help her.

I can understand your concern. She is on Prozac which is an antidepressant drug, Hydrocodone, Gabapentine, Corasaprodol etc drugs. She is showing confusion in behaviour and poor concentration. This could be occurring due to persisting depression symptoms or anxiety due to improper sleep. More detailed information is needed.

What are her presenting symptoms?

Why has she been prescribed Prozac, Hydrocodone, Gabapentine and Soma?

Does she remember the behaviour she is having?

Any recent change in behaviour or anger outbursts?

To answer your question regarding what the medication has been prescribed for, the Prozac - depression, Hydrocodone, XXXXXXX are for back pain , and back spasms, the gabapentin is for restless leg syndrome. She does not remember any behavior that she displayed the prior day, presently she is having a serious meltdown at least 1x /week, and they may go on for hours , after which she is fine and acts like nothing happened. She has run out of her prescription pain meds as some months are worse than others, as a result she ends up getting pain meds else where . She has gotten a multitude of different types, all opiates, from morphine, to fentanyl. Is the taking of opiate affecting her sleep cycle ?.She is 5 5' tall, aprox. 140 lbs.

Hello again, thanks for providing details

Yes taking Opiates can disturb her sleep rhythm and this could be the reason of her changed behaviour. Relapse of depressive symptoms could be another reason for her symptoms.

If while on Prozac her symptoms are there then we can think of adding some another drug that helps in depression and also in sleep. Amitriptyline or Nortriptyline could be used in her case. Both these drugs are safe to use, will augment the actions of Prozac and will help in regulating the sleep too. The drugs will help to reduce the pain too. Adding the drug will Gabapentine will make a good pain killer option.

You can talk with her doctor for adding either of these drugs.
