Thanks. First, I have a question about my mother.
I've not being feeling well for sometime, with anxiety and depression. I felt bad yesterday and she was slightly supportive and then she began to talk about her only as if my matters are meaningless - this has happened many times before when I feel anxious. Then, when my father said he would take me, she started acting very odd, and being nasty to me and going on at my father.
I have said that my childhood might be one of the causes of my anxiety, and this is possibly why. But she cannot take any type of criticism. Thus, she is now the one feeling ill and although I am my first day on a new medication, she didn't bother asking how I was, it was all about her as usual in such a situation.
She has been to see a variety of professionals, and she seems to pick and choose what she tells them and therefore was diagnosed with OCD.
Anyway, I really need to understand what she is actually suffering from to possibly get on with her properly. Is she paranoid, narcissistic, borderline or is it just OCD? I'll give more examples below to help with understanding her behavior.
She seems to have a fairly low self esteem and holds grudges. She claims the family are all against her (which I doubt), and that is why she hasn't had contact with them (sister, brother, mother) for 10 years. She hasn't any friends. She certainly has suspicious behavior - she thought that her mother might have killed the pet rabbit and thus got an autopsy. She can RAGE when criticized, but only behind closed doors (only I my father and once her mother have seen this) - she becomes highly manipulative and reflects her behavior over, she is aggressive like a monster. Although, thankfully, this is rare (maybe once a year now). She can never be at fault, it is always others, she has to be in the right. She lacks true empathy. She gets my dad to side with her always, has him under her orders - I can never be in the right, she is.
I can go into more details, but that is a start :)
Thanks

Brief Answer:
I think I already answered about her in detail
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.
If I remember correctly I answered you in detail few months back and seeing the same question again. My opinion about your mother is same (Paranoid personality disorder or narcissistic disorder) and I do not think anything can be added with same piece of information.
Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply. Did you mention before that you did not think it was narcissistic disorder? Also, can you help drill down to see which it really would be from the behavior I describe?

Would you mind discussing with me still?
Brief Answer:
Yes, Why not
Detailed Answer:
I have no objection to answer your genuine questions.
You initially stated that you want to discuss about citalopram but that question was never posted. Instead of that you posted something to which I was sure that you got your answer.
You can post your questions which need to be discussed.
Thanks again.

Ok thanks. So with my mother I have an idea that it could be Paranoid Personality Disorder. Perhaps we can talk about this?
As for my new medication, I already feel different, better. I am on 10mg, I am possibly planning to not come off it if it hasn't any longterm side effects.
My dr. said I can drink alcohol too - will I get drunk faster and be less tolerable to alcohol, though?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Excessive drinks should be avoided
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.
Although it is safe to drink while you are on 10 mg of citalopram but excessive drinks should be avoided. It is not about getting drunk faster or less tolerable it is about the interaction between various molecules.
It is recommended to limit yourself for 2-3 standard drinks when you are on medicine and anything beyond this should have a big NO.
I hope this answers you.
Thanks again

Thanks for your reply. I've been a binge drinker once or twice a week for the last 5 years (12 beers a session). I mentioned I liked to drink to my dr, and although moderate drinking is advised, this medication doesn't interact and cause deadly effect, can you confirm it? I am going to try and cut down while also on the medication. I had my usual last night on the third day of medication and feel fine.
Another thing also my dr said is that I can take DL-phenylalanine and to stop taking 5-HTP. Can you confirm that taking DL-Phenylalanine is ok with my medication, and multi vitamin? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Taking DL phenylalanine is ok
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.
It can be confirmed that taking DL phenylalanine is ok with medications and do not have any significant interactions. It is also fine if you take multivitamins but it is not advisable to drink more than two beers on any occasion when you are on medication.
I hope this clarifies.
Thanks again.
