What Causes Lack Of Urination In Child?
Question: My grandchild does not urinate for over 24 hours.

Dear Ms
If the fluid intake has been adequate , the cause of not passing urine is likely to be due to
1. Painful lesion of genital
2. Underlying constipation
I would suggest you the following
1. Make the child stand under the tap . Pour cold water on feet of child from that tap. In many children this is sufficient to make then void
2. Hot Seitz bath : To a tub of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of antiseptic solution. Make child sit in it for 15 minutes. The warmthnes will help relax the perineal muscle
3. Rectal suppository : Insert one Pediatric Dulcolax (Bisacodyl ) suppository into the anus. This suppository induces the passage of stools which will also make the child void
Even after trying this the child does not pass urine then do consult your child Pediatrician for further assessment.
