What Causes Large Patch Of Short White Hair In Front Of Neck?
Question: Large patch of short white hair on front of neck. 24 year old female. No white hair anywhere else.
Brief Answer:
Could be due to a genetic predisposition.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through the description. However, there are a couple of things to ask.
* Was it present right from birth? If not, when did it start. Has it been in the same condition thereafter or has it been progressive? Any association with dandruff or fungal infections?
* Has there been a positive family history of early greying of hair?
Things would be clearer if you could upload an image of the affected area(s). You can do so using the facility on the upper right of this page.
I would wait for your response and based on the inputs would guide you accordingly.

The hair growth began 3 months ago. The hair growth stops and stays short. I do have a problem with dandruff. There isn't a family issue with early greying of hair. Note: My mother's side of the family has thyroid issues and all take medication. My mother had thyroid cancer and had it removed.
Brief Answer:
Application of clotrimazole lotion could help.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back and for attaching the image. I have checked it. There is a possibility of an underlying fungal infection which could be related to your dandruff as well. Application of candid (clotrimazole) lotion topically should provide relief. If it does not, it could be due to a genetic predisposition but seeing a dermatologist should still be a good idea. The thyroid issues could indirectly be related.
