What Causes Large Whitish Sac Behind Uvula?
Question: My husband has a large white sack, about the size of a quarter, hanging directly behind his uvula. It moves when he tilts his head. He noticed small us pockets around the uvula about a year ago. Thought it was from sinus drainage. Not painful now. Feels like he always has to clear his throat or cough and swallow.
Brief Answer:
Nasal Polyp, most likely an Antro-Choanal polyp.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
1. The white structure seems to be a nasal polyp, most likely an Antro-Choanal (AC) polyp.
2. Rarely, these can arise from the nasopharynx or the ethmoid sinuses (nasal polyposis).
3. A nasal examination by an ENT Specialist followed by nasal endoscopy and a Sinus CT will be required. In cases of doubt, a biopsy will settle the diagnosis.
4 Upload these test results to discuss treatment options.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
