What Causes Left-sided Abdominal Discomfort, Increased Belching And Gas?

Had colon resection surgery April 23 of this year
Symptoms:
Slight pain/discomfort localized on upper left side – not front or back; directly under rib cage
Lasts a few seconds, one or two times per day
Pain subsides after bowel movement, usually
Lately my BMs have been quite large, however I just had some diarrhea
Greatly increased belching and gas
Could It Be:
Inflamed colon?
Stricture formation?
Adhesions from surgery?
Diverticulitis coming back?
Gas pockets?
What should I be eating? Less fiber? Should I go on a liquid diet to give my colon a break? (I was considering it anyway for weight loss.)
I take a stool softener and probiotic.
Thank you for any information you can provide. XXXXXXX
I forgot to mention that I feel discomfort when I lay down on my left side.
Treat the intestinal investigations first, investigations if required.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Noted your history of resection of colon on April 23, symptoms of pain/discomfort for few seconds which last for few seconds and subsides after bowel movements.
Now you have large bowel movements, had some diarrhea and have increased belching and gases.
All these symptoms developing after such a long time indicate that you have intestinal infection and should settle with a course of an antibiotic and probiotics.
The possibilities you have mentioned would cause more intense symptoms and the investigations of Colonoscopy, CT scan abdomen may be required only if the medical treatment fails.
You should take absolutely normal diet which you were taking before this occurred.
I hope this answers your query.
