What Causes Left-sided Back Pain, Nausea And Diarrhea Post A Gallbladder Surgery?
Question: I had Acute Pancreatitus in 2011 and I'm not an alcoholic and they didn't find gallstones. Since then I have had to manage the pain up my back on the left side and around my arm, nausea and diarearah with certain foods. The pain is now strong on a regular basis and medicated with Tramadol and can't really function properly. They have just done a CT scan and found fatty tissue scaring from 2011 and a collapsed gallbladder. Wud u suggest removal of the gallbladder as there is no other reason for the pain?

How about possible stone in the bile ducts? Have you had any liver tests (including GGTP, AP, ALT, AST)?
Collapsed gallbladder can sometimes be the reason of such pain. But before the removal decision, other possible issues should be ruled out and especially pancreas issues. To do that, CT is not enough.
It would be a good idea to have ERCP done and EUS (endoscopic ultrasound of the pancreas) before gallbladder removal.
And if this tests will be fine, than gallbladder can be removed indeed.

If it was the Liver or bile duct, wouldnt inhave jaundice?

Jaundice does not have to be present.

Mentioned liver tests are mostly to determine the possible obstruction in the bile ducts and pancreatic duct. Sometimes tiny stone in the pancreatic duct can be the reason of such symptoms. Not all stones can be seen in the CT.
And not every stone can cause jaundice. Only in case of complete obstruction jaundice is always present. Otherwise, jaundice is not necessary.
Jaundice does not have to be present.
