What Causes Left Sided Chest Pain Radiating Towards The Center?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 May 2024
Question: I have been having chest pains in left chest near heart for over a week now. Pain also radiates to center of chest and sometimes to arm and back left shoulder blade. Been to ER twice over it. Both times my labs, X-rays, ekg, and etc all came back good. In fact they used the word pristine on my blood work. They have sent me home both times without knowing the deal. First night they said acute anxiety. 2nd night they said atypical chest pain. Last doctor said if problems kept up and as long as it didn’t get worse to tough it out for a few days and see if symptoms started to improve. Something just doesn’t feel right. Pain comes and goes. Sometime more of an ache and pressure and sometimes more of a sharp pain. And in different places along my chest. It’s worse when sitting or laying down as well.

Any thoughts here? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
2d echo and stress test to be done.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Firstly ecg etc are just baseline test of cardiology.Sensitivity levels of this test is very low and is often very hyped tests in cardiology field. As you had two episodes of cardiac pain with radiation i would suggest you to go for minimum two tests-
1)cardiac tread mill test-You are made to run on a tread mill and ecg would be taken go see if there is any ischemia or possible reduction of blood supply to that area.
2)Cardiac 2 d echo -This test is done fo rule out any possible motion abnormality in cardiac walls.Ejection fraction heart which means that how much blood heart is pumping.
By blood function of you mean cardiac troponins and CPK MB then its ok.Any other blood test has no value as such in cardiac condition.
Go to a cardiologist-
Get basic tests done.
Though your age is 31 only but nature of pain is like cardiac one.
Sensitivity of tmt and echo is more then 85%.If these tests are ok you are cleared from cardiac side and other causes like acid peptic disorder have to be considered.
I would suggest you to have a second consultation with a Gastroenterologist on forum for his opinion on its nature being gastric in origin.
Hope i was informative.
Thanks.
