What Causes Left-sided Pain Between The Hip And Rib Cage?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Aug 2017
Question: My wife has severe pain in her lower left side, in-between her hip and rib cage. She can’t lift her arms over her head because of the pain it causes. It hurts her when she sits or lays down in certain positions. She also found out that when she bends her neck downwards it triggers the pain in her lower side (where she has been having the pain at)
This just started yesterday and she has been taken Aleve and been putting Aspercreme on it over night.
What do you think this would be ?
Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Probably a strained muscle!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully. This is most likely a strained muscle.

The mechanical nature of the pain is typical. I will suggest that she gets good pain medications: 400mg of Ibuprofen every 8hours and 650mg of Tylenol every 8hours after food. Using both together ensures greater and better pain control. She will also need some rest for the time being to allow the muscles to recover fully.

If this pain persists/no improvement within next 3 days, I'd suggest that she get evaluated at the hospital. At that time, the decision to see a physical therapist would also be made.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
Regards
