What Causes Leg Pain, Swelling From Knee To Ankle And Fatty Liver?
Scansays
Fatty liver
Contracted gall blader
Get a Doppler done for the leg.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,
Fatty liver could be due to various causes. Is there any grading giving by the Radiologist? Liver function tests should be done. If already done then please let us know or upload the reports for us to review.
About the pain and swelling in the leg, it could be Lymphedema or a venous problem. I suggest you get a Color Doppler of your affected lower limb done to look for arterial and venous system and that would delineate what the problem is.
Is there any history of trauma or surgery on the affected limb?
Compression stockings should be continued as rightly advised.
I usually advice my patients to take Tab Daflon 500mg twice daily for three months which help in Venous problems and Lymphedema.
Do get the investigation done and let us know so we can advice you further.
Take care,

thank you Doctor for your review. As you have asked,
i had Doppler scan on both the legs in nov 2014 , when the pain was acute.. Veins and artery flow are normal. No DVT found. blood flow is normal. But edema present in lower i/3 of both the legs.
As you have asked. I met with a road accident in nov 2011. had multiple injuries in the right leg . skin which coves talus were completely torn. layer of skin removed near ankle. treated for hairline fracture.
Abdominal scan impressions:
1. fatty liver
contracted gall bladder.
Get kidney function test & continue same treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
Thanks for your reply.
Since the Doppler was normal it would most likely be Lymphedema. For which you should continue the stockings and medicines I had advised.
Also keep a check of your Kidney function tests. Kidney abnormalities can also lead to ankle edema. If you have not gotten them done then get a blood test done for BUN, Creatininie, Sodium and Potassium. You can let us know the same or consult your GP with it.
If these tests are normal then treatment will continue for Lymphedema and if there is some derangement in the kidney function then you will need to consult a Nephrologist.
Do let us know in either case so we can guide you further.
Take care.

if it is lymphedema, ca it be cured? or lifetime problem?
thanks & Regards,
Prof. Dr. XXXX
Lymphedema treatment to continue.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Prof XXXX.
You have not mentioned the kidney test results but I presume they are fine since you said all reports are normal.
Then it can only be Lymphedema. It is a lifelong problem and is difficult to treat. Many operations have been devised and described but none has very good results. The wounds do not heal many times and the surgeries can lead to ugly scars. But if you want a Surgical option you should consult a Vascular Surgeon or a Plastic Surgeon.
Medical management consists of limb elevation, stockings, Daflon and Lymphapress therapy. This is a machine which gives sequential pressure from the foot till the thigh. It is usually found in Surgical OPD or wards. You can also buy a machine for home use if you find it useful.
Take care and do let me know if I can help you with any other queries.
