What Causes Lightheadedness And Tensing Of Jaw After Talking?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: I noticed after talking to someone my jaw becomes very tense and lightheaded. I feel like have shortness of breath. My stomach gets tight, once I get out of that environment
Im better but I feel nausea. I have been taking different types of anxiety medication that are not helping. Attivan is the only medication that helps, but it does not cure my problem. I don’t know what else to do. I have had checkup CT scans, ANT checkups. Unfortunately I feel
like the attivan is also making me sick after not taking it for a few days, so Im unable to isolate my real problem.

Brief Answer:
anxiety disorders need patience from both you and your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hey thanks for your faith in the health care Magic
I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.
Sometimes people get nervous while talking. While nervousness may not actually cause shortness of breath, it can make people talk faster. As a result, an individual may find himself breathing faster and deeper. If this is the case, making a conscious effort to slow down breathing and exhale fully can help. Even though anxiety may not be the direct cause of shortness of breath, worrying about what is causing the feeling can make breathing more labored when talking.
You said attivan is helping you out.But I will suggest you to consult with your psychiatrist immediately if you get any of these side effects of the drug.

serious side effects:

confusion, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
hyperactivity, agitation, hostility;
hallucinations; or
feeling light-headed, fainting.

Less serious Ativan side effects may include:

drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness;
blurred vision;
sleep problems (insomnia);
muscle weakness, lack of balance or coordination;
amnesia or forgetfulness, trouble concentrating;
nausea, vomiting, constipation;
appetite changes; or
skin rash.
Other treatment options are as follows
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are generally used as first-line agents, followed remotely by tricyclic antidepressants.
Fluoxetin,paroxetin, Escitalopram, Sertraline, Mirtazapine.
Cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy can be used alone or in addition to pharmacotherapy. The combination approach yields superior results for most patients compared to either single modality.
Caffeine-containing products such as coffee, tea, colas, and Mountain Dew should be discontinued (or decreased to a low reasonable level). Over-the-counter preparations and herbal remedies should be reviewed with special caution because ephedrine and other herbal compounds may precipitate or exacerbate anxiety symptoms. The use of some gentle herbal preparations may be considered in persons who do not have allergies or sensitivities to those agents.
Most often, psychiatrists are consulted. Psychology consultation and testing is indicated if cognitive impairment is of concern or if the patient may be a candidate for CBT. Social work consultation may be helpful if coping skills are markedly impaired.
