Question: Hi there have had on going Lightheadness, neckpain and headaches for going on three years I went and saw Dr No 4 last week for an opinion and he changed my BP medication from coverram to coversyl and my BP sky rocketed to 170/100 and my headaches are now severe cant handle them. went back to Dr today and am now back on the coverram and on Tramdol for the headaches and I have to have an ultrasound of the scalp but cant get it done for 2 weeks as my head hurt for him to touch it- he did say what he is guessing it to be but cant remember what he said and he said treatment for it if the ultrasounds says thats what it is is it cortosone injections in the head.

Just for further information re the lightheadness I have had MRI, CT, Neck Xray and nurmours blood tests, heart checks seen a nurologist and they cant find any course for it- oh and I am going through Peri menopause my BP does not drop on standing so its Not that and nuroligical wise seems to be no reason for it.... open to suggestions or idea or what the Dr might be thinking above.

Blood pressure has to be under control

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXX

Greeting from Dr. Divakara.P
First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

There are many causes for Dizziness, from simple and easily treatable causes to serious causes .

Simple causes are :

1. Abnormalities in BP: Both high and low BP can cause dizziness.
2. Abnormalities in Blood sugars: Both high and low Blood sugars can cause dizziness.

3. Abnormalities in blood sodium levels.
4. Low Hemoglobin ( Anemia )
5. Inner Ear problems .
6. Thyroid Problems.

Some serious problems are :

1. Heart Problems
2: Brain problem

In your case as you have got Brain scan and blood tests done and all are fine I think Blood pressure is the main culprit for your problems. I need to know why your Blood pressure medications was changed initially.

What is your present Blood pressure ?

Also if not done kindly get these tests done Hemogobin , Fasting and Postprandial Blood Sugars , Serum Sodium levels, Serum TSH , Serum Vitamin B12

HHope you find this information useful .

Any clarification feel free to ask

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound will not give any additional information.

Detailed Answer:
HI

I don't think Ultrasound of scalp will give any additional information since your MRI brain itself is normal .

Regarding the possible cause for your giddiness , it could be an inner ear problem. I would advice you to consult an ENT doctor , he will do an exam called DIX HALLPIKE MANUVRE which will confirm the inner ear problem. ( because no scan will prove problem in inner ear)

Kindly get the test done and revert back .

Regards.
