Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. You are reporting to have loose stools that float on toilet.
These symptoms usually are related with malabsorption or pancreatic enzyme insuficience.
2. This is why at your case I would suggest to do:
- fecal tests for malabsorption
- digestive enzyme level.
- upper endoscopy plus biopsy on D2 for Celiac disease.
- serological test for Celiac disease
- abdominal ultrasound / abdominal CT scan.
3.It is important to evaluate and perform examination s above and after that you can start to use digestive enzymes like Creon.
If you have other concerns I would be glad to assist you further.

Is malabsorption a result of the gastric bypass? If so, how is it corrected?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Yes gastric bypass is associated with symptoms similar to malabsorption even with malabsorbtion.
Usually these symptoms starts imediately after bypass surgery. Please can you specify when you have done gastric bypass??
Otherwise in such cases in clinical practise is hightly recommended diet and lifestyle changes.
It means that you should avoid large meals and sugar or fatty foods.
Except diet changes you can use digestive enzymes too.

I had gastric bypass surgery 8 years ago. I had follow up with the surgeon for 5 years. I followed the post-op instructions and diet and have been doing great until all of this started about 6 months ago. I lost 200 lbs after surgery. Held that weight loss until a year ago when I started losing weight again....lost another 50 lbs without trying. I eat 4 to 5 small meals or snacks a day. I feel uncomfortable and bloated if I overeat. So, I have adjusted how I eat accordingly. I am active for my age...I work part--time taking care of an elderly person. Do all my own housework and outside work. Mowing grass, weeding, shoveling snow. I just don't understand why this is happening now. I do have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in October. And also my primary care physician. I will talk to both doctors about your suggestions. Any other information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I like to be prepared when I see my doctors. Thank you so much for your time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
If the malabsorption would be related with gastric bypass that it will start imediately after surgery.
At your case I would suggest to continue evaluation about the cause of malabsorption.
Hope it was helpful to you.
