What Causes Low T3 Level?

Question: Please note that my wife was constantly feeling exhausted, have very bad hair fall and
didnt feel like doing anything so I went to our doctor (GP) and she recommended
that she should have her Thyroid tested. The results show that my T3 is low so
she has prescribed her Thyroxin 25mg for 2 weeks. The doctor also told her
that her results show that she has low salt. she also had her Thyroid tested back
in 2012 when she had irregular menses, but back then her Thyroid was ok but her
progesterone and estrogens were low and she was on microgynon contraceptive
pill for almost a year.
I am attaching my results?
In your view what are the things I should be worried about from the results?
Has my GP prescribed the right medication
Is there anyother remedy i can do to increase my T3.
Anything else I should know
Brief Answer:
What I could see from her -
Detailed Answer:
dear sir, Hi! as per the reports I could not see the problem with the thyroid , we usually do not treat T3. estrogen and progesterone also seems to be in normal range. now symptomatically if you want to treat give vitamin D, vitamin B12, calcium supplements and watch for results. she has a history of irregular periods as well for which she was given hormonal replacement. but why did she have irregular cycles? We might need her LH, FSH and cortisol and may be even post synacthen cortisol. even one MRI pituitary might be required. Regards!

Thanks for your response
Can you please explain this abbreviation as I am not a medical person
ie LH, FSH , cortisol and post synacthen cortisol.
What is MRI pituitary?
We were told by the doctor that she was having irregular cycles as estrogen and progesterone were low in her body
Brief Answer:
pituitary assessment.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX full form of LH FSH is leutinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone. the entire purpose of doing LH, FSH, cortisol and post synacthen cortisol test is to assess pituitary function. MRI pituitary is also a way of seeing pituitary structure. low estrogen, low progesterone, and zero energy levels are also pointers towards disturbed pituitary function. Regards!

Hi Doc
Normal Range for T 3 is 4.26 to 8.10. my wifes is 2.5. doesnt this ring an alarm.
In terms of vitamin d and b12. should this be taken separately or is it sold as a combination
Fiji GP has also asked to continue with her micro gynon pills. Whats your view on this
Brief Answer:
T3 alone has no significance
Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, if she is on gynon pills, pituitary assessment is not possible for 6 weeks from last dose. vitamin D and B12 will be given separately. b12 1500 mcg per day and vitamin d 60000i u once a week.
