What Causes Low Level Of Cortisol While On Hisone?
My dad got prolactinoma suregery 2 months back. please find the blood test report and advise. He is taking hisone 10 mg and 5 mg 5 mg in the day. the test is done without taking hisone. Please advise if everything is fine.reports attached
All reports look within normal limits.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for getting back.
I have noted the blood test reports of your father. They are within normal limits.
Low level of cortisol is related to the use of hisone tablet intake the previous day and it is a normal response.
Hemoglobin is slightly low, for which iron supplements may be used.
The best news is that prolactin level is normal.
I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

He is able to open his both eyelids . I hope u remembered he lost vision in left eye before surgery.he is feeling air sensation when the fan is moving from left eye.
Do we need to MRI? If yes when? why the white blood count is less? what should be given in that??
MRI is not needed now.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.
Good to know that he is moving the eyelids.
MRI is not needed now.
White blood cell count may be low due to viral fever. It would improve on its own.

So when MRI is needed?
I would be glad to see your dad.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your compliments.
I would be glad to see your father, whenever possible.
MRI is generally not needed, if he is doing well. However, if we want to see whether the tumor has been completely removed or not (which is most likely done, as his prolactin level is normal), then, we can do MRI any time.

Common after pituitary surgery.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.
During surgery for prolactinoma, the normal pituitary gland also gets damaged upto a certain extent. ACTH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, which stimulates adrenal gland to produce cortisol. Since ACTH is low in your dad, the cortisol is also low.
He should continue hisone for long time, as the chance of it improving in the near future is low.
