What Causes Low Ovarian Reserve And Irregular Periods?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: I am 43 with low ovarian reserve and irregular periods. I was given cyclo proginova therapy to try to prepare for IVF/having eggs frozen. The first 3 cycles were fine but the last two there was scant bleeding and no folicules to measure. These last two cycles I also had additional estrogen therapy days 3-7. Now I am on the last white pill of cyclo but I started bleeding yesterday (day 13) and this time it feels like a regular period. Do I continue taking the pills as prescribed and finish the pack or count this as a new cycle? It is a long holiday weekend where I live and I can't reach my doctor.

Hi

I need few more details before answering your question:

1. You are undergoing IVF with your own eggs or donor eggs ?

2. Are you yet to freeze eggs or frozen already.

3. Are you planning to get injection to get stimulation for IVF ?

4. What medicines have you received in last 2 cycles ?

5. You had bleeding on 13 th day last 2 cycles also ?

1. My eggs, if possible.
2. Not frozen yet.
3. I don't know, I haven't discussed it with my doc.The assumption was we'd have some eggs to freeze in the past two cycles.
4. The current regime: cyclo proginova 2 mg from day 3, additional estrogen (not sure which) days 3-7, euthyrox 100 mg, vitamin b 12 3x daily, folic acid 1x daily, selenium 3x daily.
5. This is the first cycle with mid-cycle bleeding, although I thought I saw a single spot one day mid-cycle last time.

Brief Answer:
Continue pills

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for additional information.

Please continue the medicines you are taking though there us bleeding. This is unlikely to be your periods.

Bleeding is possibly due to some shed portion of endometrium. This needs to be confirmed by doing an ultrasound scan. Till then please continue medicines as per schedule to finish the pack and don't stop them.

I hope your doubt is cleared.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Dr. Mahesh Koregol.
