What Causes Low Sex Drive And Testicular Pain?

Question: My husband had high iron in his blood and needed phlebotomy. He also has testicular pain, low testosterone and a hx of hematuria. He is 52 years old and Caucasion. His Physician has him using Androgel. He is @ 480 ng/dl in his Testosterone level. His sexual drive is nil. Should he see a Urologist for his symptoms? Should he be concerned about hematuria...which is now okay, but no cause given....and testicular pain? Is all of this related? Will his sex drive return once his levels normalize? Does he have to stay on TRT forever or can he stop once he normalizes? At what level can he expect to see an increase in his sex drive? Is there residual from having had low testosterone and and high iron for a long period of time.....he has had symptoms for at least 3 years for low sex drive, and symptoms associated with high iron for approx 5-7 years.

Yes, he needs to be concerned about hematuria as there are lot of things that would cause this. Physical examination is mandatory to assess this since there are wide variety of causes that needs to be ruled out. Usually, his sex drive should be normalised if the cause of it was low testosterone levels. But, this needs to be confirmed by excluding other possibilities. Yes, he needs to directly meet a Urologist. Sometimes, testicular pain itself can cause low sex drive, because of pain. So, cause of this pain should be evaluated based on physical exam findings by Urologist and also he may need investigations like scrotal ultrasound examination. Yes, of course, we will get referred right away. My husband is still curious...At what level should his testosterone be in order to see a sex drive again..providing that his low levels are the cause of his low sex drive..

Brief Answer: Thanks. Detailed Answer: Hi, Normal levels are 300 -1,000 ng/dL. So, I personally think that your husband's cause of low sex drive is not because of testosterone levels as his levels are within normal limits. Your treating doctor needs to find out the actual cause. Take Care!
