What Causes Low Testosterone Levels And Raised PSA Levels?
I am a 51 yr old white male. For the past several years, MY PSA has ranged from 1.2 - 1.8, At the end of January my PSA was 1.8. I was put on testosterone and my testosterone level was very low. I went back a few weeks ago and had a blood test. My testosterone level went up 600 points. And my PSA went from a 1.8 to a 3.5.I immediately stopped the testosterone and went back 4 days later and had my PSA tested again. This time it dropped to a 2.8. My doctor sent me to a urologist a few days ago. The urologist did a rectal exam and said my prostate is hard. And that she was concerned because I had a spike in my PSA . I now have a biopsy set for this coming week. I am scared and do you think they caught the cancer early. I am afraid because of the unknown. Is being within the PSA guidelines to my benefit? Am i worrying too much?
Your raised PSA could be due to Testosterone .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been under Testosterone therapy for low testosterone levels and have noticed your PSA has raised to 3.5 ng .
Your Urologist has noticed your prostate to be hard and has advised Prostate Biopsy.
Based on the values of PSA which are still within normal range I would suggest you to get few more tests done before you plan for prostate biopsy .
1) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning (TRUS)
2) C.T.Scan of the pelvis .
3) Repeat your PSA after one month and take a call for prostate biopsy .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
