Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I had the flu real bad back in April of 2014. I was hospitalized for 4 days. And I haven't felt right since. Now I find that I have low testosterone. Can flu damage the testicles in such a way as to cause this?

Brief Answer:
Levels can vary

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
Testosterone is a dynamic male hormone and the levels can fluctuate on a day to day basis. Many conditions including smoking , alcohol, illness, stress and even the time of the day can affect the levels of testosterone. Again, it should be measured on a fasting state between 7 to 9 am. Otherwise it can show low values.

Flu can reduce testosterone levels if you have been very sick. Again, this is temporary and it will normalize once you recover. However, a flu like illness ( MUMPS) can affect the testes and can reduce the testosterone levels and sperm quantity. Did you have any testes pain or swelling soon after the Flu?

What was the testosterone levels and what time of the day was it done? Could you attach a copy?
