What Causes Lower Abdominal And Back Pain When Diagnosed With Diverticulosis?

Question: A month ago, I developed severe pain in my lower abdomen and back. I went to urgent care and from a urine specimin it was found that I had an infection. They termed this as a bladder infection although I had none of the symptoms of a bladder infection. The doctor prescribed Nitrofurantoin/Mac. By the time I finished the prescription, The pain had subsided. Now, I am experiencing the same symptoms--the pain is on the left side of my stomach and back). I went to my family doctor yesterday. They checked a urine sample and did blood work for an infection and all was negative. My doctor said I probably had diverticulosis and there was nothing he could do. I am taking 3 advil periodically during the day and only getting minimal relief. What can I do to clear this up? I know that soon the advil will start hurting my stomach Also what do I need to do to prevent this in the future? I have never had stomach issues before. (I had a colonoscopy in 2010 and was told that I had diverticuli pouches.)
Brief Answer:
It could be Diverticulitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As you were diagnosed with Diverticulosis previously, the pain could be due to inflammation of the pouches leading to Diverticulitis.
Pain in the left side of the stomach could be due to left sided Ureteric stone. You should get an Ultrasound abdomen and rule out Ureteric stone.
If it is normal, then the pain could be due to Diverticulitis.
You should consult a Lower GI surgeon and proceed accordingly.
I prefer analgesic containing Tramadol instead of Adliv.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
