What Causes Lower Abdominal Discomfort Inspite Of Being On Antibiotics For Bladder Infection?
Question: I am on vacation from US; and saw my doctor for what he determined was a mild bladder infection.
Taking antibiotics and prostate reduction medication.
My symptoms have increased; lower stomach discomfort, and severe right lower back pain during the night; back pain is reduced during the day. Urinating about once an hour during the night.
Had kidney stones about 20 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Infection worsening or kidney stone.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
How long do you take an antibiotic? What kind of antibiotic is that? Was there urine analysis done?
Your symptoms indicate that the infection has reached the kidney (back pain) or that this is not infection but kidney stone.
The difference is that kidney stone gives sharp strong pain. Infection appears with dull pain and fever.
The best you can do is to get back to your doctor. Abdominal ultrasound seems advisable to seek for possible stone and to find out if there is no ureter obstruction.
Antibiotic change should be considered.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Taking antibiotic Cirofloxacin HCL 500 MG for about 2 weeks. Have enough for the rest of my trip that ends on 5/6.
Urine culture showed "small" infection.
I do not have a fever, pain is worse at night when I am in bed, and get up to use the bathroom, and early in the morning.
Pain is worse at times when I stand up or move my back in an unusual way. By the end of the day, the pain is mostly gone.

Brief Answer:
Ciprofloxacine should be taken 5 days.
Detailed Answer:
Ciprofloxacine should be taken for 5 days. After first day or two you should feel much better. Two weeks is way too long for this antibiotic. It simply does not work for the source of your pain.
There is one more possibility. Spine problem can give similar pain. And it gets worse after standing or moving in an unusual way.
If you have Ibuprophen, please try to take it along with acethaminophen. If this will help, urinary tract is not the case. If it wont, ultrasound should be done.
Regards.
