What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain And Bright Orange Urine?
Question: I thought I had food poisoning. Extreme cramping, 8 hour fever, lower abdominal pain. But no vomiting, only had diarrhea once. I was fine after 24 hrs, and although cramping is gone, lower left/center gut pain persists. My urine was bright orange one time. I drink 2 glasses of red wine daily with dinner. I'm 64 and haven't missed a day of work due to illness in over 20 years. What's up ?

Brief Answer:
Chronic dormant and recurrent UTI management detailed below
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank You for following up
UTI can remain dormant for six months. This happens when UTI is treated with antibiotics inadequately or the bacteria became resistant to antibiotics.
The episode of current UTI can either be flare up of a dormant UTI or recurrent UTI.
In either case, diagnosis is confirmed by Urine analysis and culture, whereby appropriate antibiotics can be chosen. Recurrent UTI may require long-term antibiotic therapy.
If you experience recurrent UTIs, here are few tips to prevent such recurrence
-Drink plenty of fluids
-Drinking cranberry juice has been suggested. But there is no scientific evidence backing up its use to prevent recurrent UTI.
-Wipe from front to back after using toilet
-Keep genital area clean and dry.
-Change undergarments daily. Wear breathable cotton underwear.
-If you are diabetic, make sure blood sugar levels are well controlled
-Consider using Vaginal estrogen creams if you are post menopause. Estrogen helps increasing natural antimicrobial substances in the bladder.
-Use antibiotics as prescribed
