What Causes Lower Calf Pain After Running A Marathon In A Diabetic?
Unlikely to be anything serious.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr XXXXXXX I am Dr Praveen and I will be answering your query today. Read your question and noted the contents. The most worrisome among all conditions in a diabetic is peripheral vascular disease and you being a marathon runner who is able to do it reasonably well shows that you have good vascular supply. The blood up of lactic acid in the muscle at the end of an activity contributes to the ache. It would however be prudent to do two things. One is to check your ankle brachial index and toe brachial index at your diabetologists office. Secondly it would be good to estimate your vitamin d levels. Lower levels are associated with fatigue and pain of muscles. Would you try and workout your lower limb muscles at a hymn from now. It will help raise the threshold of your ability to do such long runs. Drink plenty of water when you run or work out. Please feel free to let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Wishing you good health. Take care. Regards, Dr Praveen.
All the very best
You are welcome.
