What Causes Lower Right Abdominal Pain After Bowel Movement?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: I am having occasional lower right abdominal pain following a bowel movement. It is quite severe. the stool will be soft usually but not loose. this happens 2-3 times in a week and will then not bother me for a few weeks. after it happens I can feel spasms for a few hours. when it occurs I can get a little relief by pushing hard on that part of the abdomen with my hands. I am female age 52 overweight and no longer have my uterus. I do have a bladder sling. I honestly can't remember if I started having these after the sling was out in place but I believe so. my labs for cholesterol and all that are perfect. I had a colonoscopy last year and had a couple polyps. Please help.

Hi Dear,Thanks for your query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your submitted query details.
You seem to have this problem mostly after a bladder sling, and a normal cholesterol and cardiac lab profiles with a normal colonoscopy, but with couple of Polyps.

Perceiving your health concerns-
You seem to have severe but occassional pains in right lower abdomen, after bowel movements with soft stools, which occurs in bouts of 2-3 / week and would go into remission for few weeks.

Cause of the recurring right lower abdominal pain-
-This suggests the changing dietary pattern, which is mostly causing this right abdominal/ and
-could be accompanied with recurring reducible partial intestinal adhesive obstruction (caused after the Bladder Sling Surgery-where after the surgical mesh / polypropylene sling used - if it is so(confirm with your Gyenc Surgeon- if he has used so)/
or after a sling of tissue used for the correction of stress incontinence from pelvic organ prolapse after hysterectomy you had earlier, would cause such a intestinal partial obstruction with colicks before it is relieved).
-Or could be from recurring colonic polyps, which are causing recurring colitis with changed motility from infection of right lower colon, causing the pain in right lower abdomen with colicks.

Suggested plan-
Consult your Gynec Surgeon for reassessing the causes of lower right abdominal pain after bladder sling and get the intestinal adhesiions corrected by laparoscopic adhesiolysis.

also Consult GI Colonoscopist- to reassess Colonoscopic examination for the Colonic polyposis after Contrast CT Abdomen for the colonic studies in your case.

Treat the ? Recurring colonic infections with antibiotics and antispasmodic medicines from your doctor and correct the colonic polyposis, if need be to relieve this right lower abdominal pain after the bowel movements.

Treat the general health with Good Diet, replenishing the body fluids if need be, and with Sporlac- for stabilizing the colonic bacterial flora,
and with Vit-B 12 - 2500 mcg x week x 6 weeks to recoup the pernicious anemia accompanied with mal-absorption syndrome caused by this repeated soft bowel motions with reducing recurring bowel obstructions, if need be.

Hope this plan for your case would help you to plan treatment with your doctors there and to come out of this complex problem after bladder sling,if it is confirmed by your Gynec doctors.
