Brief Answer:
Salivary gland

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You just noticed a lump just under your tongue. There are several structures under the tongue that could possibly be this lump. There is a salivary gland that opens just under the tongue and it frequently will get blocked. This blockage then shows up as a painful lump. The best treatment is to stimulate the salivary gland with sour candy. If that does not dislodge the blockage then you may need to have an antibiotic. The other thing it could be is a small lymph node. These happen with colds or flus or other small infections. They will also resolve on their own.

In summary
1. salivary gland blockage
2. Sour candy to unblock duct
3. oral antibiotics if sour candy fails
4. Possible Lymph node which will resolve spontaneously
