Brief Answer:
Haematoma
Detailed Answer:
hi,
thanks for your question.
this lump is called a haematoma. it is blood under the skin which has collected as a result of the injury. it will subside with time and bruise a little more over the next few days. as long as your child remains otherwise well I would not worry about the haematoma. if you could post a picture it will help confirm the diagnosis.
I hope this answers your question.
best wishes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question. A haematoma does not mean he has a fracture however a haematoma can co-exist with a fracture. If he is otherwise entirely well then he does not require a skull Xray. The bump and mushiness can continue for a number of weeks. You may not see a bruise. If you are concerned that he may have a fracture or he has any other symptoms such as vomiting or increased sleepiness then I would seek a medical consultation.
I hope this further answers your question.
