Question: My 6 yr old daughter found a lump on the right side of her neck. It feels like a round ball of fatty tissue. She has complained of headaches, chest pains when breathing. This morning she woke up saying it hurt her chest area on her right side when breathing.
Brief Answer:
hi, post viral pleuritic pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hi madam, I need more information to comment on your answer.
If a patient of these symptoms come to my clinic I would ask the following questions.
1. What is duration of neck swelling.
2. Does the neck swelling cause pain.
3. Did she have any throat infection within a month duration.
4. Does sje have any pus oozing out of swelling.
Regarding her chest pain when breathing, in my opinion it looks like a pleuritic pain post viral infection. Usually any viral infection causes chest pain, body pain, headache weakness for about a month after the infection has subsided.
If I were your treating doctor I would have given just anti inflammatory medicines for about a weeks duration. I would have advised for a chest x ray to see the lung conditions. And also advise for sputum test if she has wet cough.
It would be kind enough if you give us more details on her neck swelling. Thanks. Regards.
Thank you for trying to help me figure out what's going on with my daughter. Her neck is not swollen, there is a cyst type lump in the middle part of the right side of her neck. She has 2 of these cyst like lumps
Brief Answer:
clinical examination, ultrasound scan.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
These cyst like swelling, more than 1, present in middle of neck, not associated with pain, looks like its a lipoma( fat tumour), dermoidcyst, thyroid related swelling or any other thing. It would better enough if you can consult your pediatrician, get her examined. Clinical examinnation is very important to diagnose.
If I were your treating doctor I would have asked for a ultrasound scanning of neck to evaluate the tumour/ cyst.
