Question: I have a metallic taste in my mouth. Water tastes very bitter and metallic, so I usually put about a quarter of a flavored water to cut the taste to tolerable. Plain water I Usually substitute with vitamin enhanced water flavored and sweetened with Stevia purchased from kroger. I will drink 4 to5 bottles of this a day. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Causes to metallic taste in your mouth....
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
The metallic taste in your mouth is indicative that your stomach is suffering (possible gastritis/GERD or other problems).
You are saying to be taking many meds for intense pain for your back, while mentioning only hydrocodone and wear a pain patch. Can you please indicate other medications you are taking?
Such medications might alter the function of the stomach resulting in hyper-acidity which is felt like bitter and metallic taste by you.
Liver/gallbladder problems are also associated with the symptoms you have.
I also suggest to discuss with GI specialist in order to get further examined (upper endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound) and get proper treatment in time. I usually prescribe to my patients with your problems omeprazole and anti-acids.
In addition, I advise to:
- drink more water
- keep a good oral hygiene
- avoid laying down immediately after eating
Hope it was of help!
