What Causes Migraine Headaches, Celiac Disease, White Spots In Armpits And Abdomen?

Question: Hello, I have white spots that have appeared in my arm pits and on my abdomen. My dermatologist believes it may be an autoimmune disorder. I have Celiac disease and migraine headaches, so I already have two autoimmune conditions. She suggested that it could be related to a low thyroid. Is this possible? If so, what should I do? Thanks you for your time and help.

Brief Answer:
segmental vitiligo

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

Based on the history you shared, it likely appears to be segmental vitiligo, which you are suffering from. Basically it is a disorder in which skin pigmentation is lost, which is normally been imparted by melanin as a person's natural skin tone.

Apart from cosmetic problems, it is not otherwise much troublesome, apart from lost of skin barrier to various radiations which have been otherwise kept screened.

It is autoimmune and has got association with some other autoimmune conditions though few forms of low thyroid among them but not necessarily. To be on the safe side, you can get screening by thyroid function tests as well as tests of fasting blood sugars for diabetes.

Treatment options include topical steroids like 0.05% clobestol formulations. Some other drugs like tacrolimus have also been suggested but are associated with serious side effects and strict monitoring. Some dermatologist suggest UV phototherapies.

But since it is on concealed areas on your skin, I would suggest you not to take chances with such aggressive therapies.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
