What Causes Mild Fever, Swollen Rashes On Calves And Ankles?
Question: Two days ago my calves and ankles started getting what looked like a rash that wraps around my leg. It is under the skin though. It has now turned almost purple and is sensitive to touch. I also have swelling and low grade fever. I discovered the pigmentation after a day of walking during a recent field trip. I am pre diabetic but am relatively healthy otherwise. I am keeping my feet elevated but wonder if this is something I need to be concerned about. Thank you
Brief Answer:
few possible causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
There are several possible causes and further tests are required for diagnosis. In first case, you need to be evaluated by angiologist and check your arteries and veins . There can be vein thrombosis and you should do Doppler ultrasound to rule this out. Thrombosis is common finding in diabetics. Other possible causes are lymphedema, heart congestion or varicose veins with hypostatic dermatitis. Till you do tests, you should rest, keep legs elevated, apply cold compresses, put elastic socks and eat less salty food. Wish you good health.regards. feel free to ask

Thank you for responding. I did have an emergency room visit 6 months ago with severe leg swelling. They did an ultrasound and ct scan and ruled out blood clot but said I had pleaurisy (sp) and all the symptoms of one. I followed up with dr and he put me on an aspirin regime and found streaking in my lungs that he couldnt explain but said no need to worry. Should i take aspirin until i can be seen?
Brief Answer:
aspirin not necessary
Detailed Answer:
Sorry,I didn't see photos before.
Well it still can be vein thrombosis, but now it may be even some dermatological disease such as erithema annulare, or some allergic reaction to medications it food. I suggest to wait for few days, avoid possible alergenes and if rash persist or spread you should see dermatologist and do skin biopsy.
