Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, Hi
I can understand your concern for your beloved mother.
X-ray findings are suggestive of osteoarthritis of the knees.
It is an age related degenerative conditions involving the weight bearing joints most commonly seen in elderly females. It occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of long bones wears down over time.
1. It is not a serious condition, it appears to be of mild type.
2. Nutritional supplements like Glucosamine & Chondroitin sulfate are found to be effective in slowing the progress of the disease.
3. For the control of pain, she can take Paracetamol tablets for mild pain.
If the pain is moderate an oral NSAID like Ibuprofen or Aceclofenac is effective. Or Diclofenac gel or Capsaicin ointment are also effective if she has stomach acidity problem due to NSAID drugs
4. For severe pain she may need Inj. Hydrocortisone or Hyaluronic acid given into the affected joints.
Besides medications, exercise (daily morning/evening walk) to strengthen the muscles around the knee joints & to control the weight is also recommended.
Regarding Terifrac (Teriparatide) injection for Osteoporosis, it has to be taken as prescribed by her treating physician as it effectively reduces the risk of fractures of the spine and femur due to thinning of the bones (osteoporosis).
It is not the reason for her knee joint problems.
Hope this answers your query.
