What Causes Mild Pain In Shoulder During Swinging?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: My son had labrum surgery 2 years ago on his left shoulder. While batting 3 days ago, he got hit in this shoulder and he says it still hurts. It hurts to swing and he says it hurts to catch a ball. It doesn't hurt to lift or move around though. I think some of it could be in his mind since he had the surgery, but I am sure it does really hurt too. Nothing popped (he knows what that is, because that is what caused his tear before). Just not sure if we need to head back to the doctor or if it's just sore from getting hit.

Brief Answer:
Can wait.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild pain during the swinging is likely to be due to a soft tissue superficial injury in the area due to the hit. Since all the movements are intact and there is no sudden sharp pain any labral injury is not likely.
Just giving some rest to the overhead activities doing a hot fomentation and taking a mild pain killer like Tylenol will be helpful.
You can wait for a week and self monitor the improvement.
I hope this answers your query.
