Question: My wife is has just started her 8th month of pregnancy. She had yesterday travelled in a car for a marriage and came back home same day with some rest in between the journey. She has been complaining of mild stomach cramps. We showed her to our gynecologist and they prescribed her duvadenil retard with a dose of two tablets a day for 5 days. She has just taken her first dose today. When can her cramps stop completely. The cramps are not severe and not continuous.I am extremely worried.

Brief Answer:
Contractions will reduce in 2 days

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your query.

I have read you query and I understand your concerns about cramps.

Following is my reply:

1) The tablets prescribed by your doctor are likely to take care of the preterm labor she is experiencing.

2) It takes about another 2 days for contractions to decrease.

3) Some minor contractions will remain as they are normal in this time of pregnancy.

I hope I answered you query and addressed your concerns.

Let me know if you wish to ask any further questions. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the answer.

I want to ask whether sexual activity is allowed in 8th month of pregnancy? Will kissing nipples softly trigger pre term labour?

Secondly does duvadilan retard confidantly stop the cramps?Because today she had taken her first does but still cramps are coming in intervals and she cannot sit or stand much. She feels better lying down.

The doctor has prescribed miprogen too.

I am afraid she doesnt go into pre term labour.

Brief Answer:
Let her take rest

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I suggest you avoid anytype of sexual activity at this moment. Nipple stimulation will increase labor pains.

It will take time for tablet duvadilan to act. If contractions are more she needs to get admitted for preterm labor treatment with injections.

Let her sleep and take rest which will reduce contractions.

Hi,

Today my wife has taken her 3rd dose of Duvadilan 40 mg and she says the frequency of pain is less.Means yesterday if it was cramping after half hour then today it is after an hour. But it has not stopped completely.

Secondly she says she feels fatigued if she sits for long time. Now long time means even 15 mins.

I want to know whether duvadilan is showing its action or we are falsely assuming that she is improving. Since the cramps come in interval of about an hour and they last hardly for a second. Does it take such a long time to stop completely even after taking 3 doses?

She is taking absolute rest. But today she could stand much more than yesterday.

She wants to know whether she can take constipation medicine because as there is no physical movement much so its bit hard to pass stools. The doctor had prescribed Smuth for constipation problem few months back. If she takes this medicine can it trigger more cramps due to stool passage?

Why do these cramps come suddenly? What is the main reason basically? Could it be because when she had gone for marriage function, she had sat for 2 hours on chair?

Brief Answer:
Contractions are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

These contractions are called XXXXXXX XXXXXXX contractions which are normal at this time of pregnancy.

These contractions eventually increase after 37 weeks of pregnancy to become labor pains aiding delivery.

Some events like traveling and standing for long time may accentuate the contractions as in your case.

With rest and medicines these will slowly reduce. It might take some more time.

Continue the medicines till then.

Let me know if you need anymore help.
