What Causes Mucus Discharge And Pain During Bowel Movement?

Question: Hi,
I am a little concerned about what could be wrong. There is not a nice way to put any of this. History, 44 yr old male, 5'10" 180 lbs. Recent physical in April with blood work all normal. Colonoscopy around 5 years ago because younger brother had polyps removed (adenoma something or other, I can't recall the term, but was not cancer). Tuesday morning I passed clear mucus then went to the toilet about 8 times, never real diarrhea, just very loose and painful. Wednesday and Thursday morning more diarrhea, really foul smelling. Throughout this period I had some minor stomach cramps but nothing too serious. Today, nothing but clear to yellowish mucus, twice, no stomach cramps or anything. I am usually pretty regular, occasionally constipated but that resolves in a few days. Is this some type of infection or something I need to be concerned about? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics - colonoscopy
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history.
This type of stools are indicative of an infection; but this can be an added problem with something in colon.
I would advise to take a course of an antibiotic.
With the history of polyps in your brother, it is always advisable to undergo a colonoscopy once the infection is settled. (it is better to undergo colonoscopy after the inflammation is settled).
It is better be concerned.
