What Causes Mucus In Bowel Movement?

Question: My 5 month old had an egg white consistency mucus in his poop. There was a speck of red blood too. Should i be worried?

I need a few more details to be better able to help you.

Can you let me know what are you giving currently? breastfeed or formula feed
Have you changed the feed recently ?
if so it could be because of the feed change that the baby is passing mucus in stools .

A spot of red blood in it shouldn't be a very bad sign. But if this repeats again and again you should get get the stool for reducing substances and pus cells. If they are present then it could be related to a viral infection for which you need to do give probiotics and zinc.
As long as your kid is active playful and if the blood doesn't appear again you can continue your feed without any worry.
