Brief Answer:

Possibility of bronchitis is more likely.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

By your history and description, possibility of bronchitis is more likely.

Bronchitis is the inflammation of airways. It causes bronchospasm and increases mucus production from glands.

So patient will have a cough with mucus expectoration and wheezing.

So better to consult pulmonologist and get done a clinical examination of the respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about the severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.

You will mostly improve with inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol).

Oral Mucinex (N acetyl cysteine) is a good drug for bronchitis.

I do not smoke. Maybe on and off for 6 months 45 years ago. About a year ago I explained my symptoms to my Doctor told him I thought it was bronchitis with the occasional wheezing. At the time he listened to my lungs and said it was more likely allergies even though it was winter time.It really is not that bothersome but it sounds like a smart idea to get the test you recommended from a pulmonologist.

Brief Answer:

Yes, you should definitely get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

This is not true. No doctor can differentiate between bronchitis and allergic (asthma) just by listening to lungs through stethoscope.

So better to get done PFT and consult a pulmonologist.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
