What Causes Muscle Jerking In Biceps And Calves At The Age Of 50?
Question: My muscles are jerking in my biceps, calves, arms and forearms. Also my toes get numb. My muscles jerk in my hips also. I was in an exercise bootcamp but I had to stop because of this. I was experiencing these problems slightly before bootcamp but know they are worse. My feet burns under the bottom and feel tight. The jerking is mostly on my left side but it is also on my right side. I experience the jerking while I'm trying to sleep at night. Please advise me on what to do?
Brief Answer:
Vitamin B12 level and/or menopause may be the cause
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.
Your symptoms suggest two possibilities.
You are at age of 50. This is menopausal age. Before, after or during menopause due to hormonal changes this type of muscle jerking may happen.
- Please let me know your menstrual history.
- Since when this type of problem is happening?
Other reason is nutritional deficiency.Specifically vitamin B 12 deficiency. Go for serum Vitamin B12 level to check up for the same.
After both of these reasons ruled out we need to think abut some neuro-mascular problem and for that we need to take opinion of neurophysician.
I will be happy to help further.
