What Causes Muscle Pain In Arm After Taking Shingles Vaccination?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: I received a herpes voster vaccine a couple of months ago. I was not having any problems with my left arm (where I got the shot) before this. Now I have pains in the muscle of the arm at the spot as well as the lower muscle in my upper arm. The shoulder aches and my hand numbs when holding a phone or book for some time. I did not have these problems before and wonder if it's related. My doctor says my heart is fine and said the muscle may be inflamed. My chiropractor gave me some exercises which are difficult to do. My arm is very stiff in the mornings but gets better as the day goes on. It just seems like a long time for it to still be bothering me. Do you have any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Injection neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description injection neuropathy is one of the likely possibilities. Gabapentin, B 12 supplementation and steroid short course with dexamethasone for two weeks can be helpful in resolution of the symptoms in this regard. If the symptoms don't improve and there is further decline in limb power then NCS and EMG should be advised after a neurological exam in consultation with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
