What Causes Nausea And Abdominal Discomfort In An Elderly Person?

Question: Hello
I have an elderly mother 89. she has nausea and abdominal discomfort. She vomits intermitantly as well. she has had an ultrasound as it was thought it may be her gal bladder. No stones or any abnormality seen. But she is still unwell and not sure where to go from here. She is in aged care. she has high blood pressure and she also gets diverticulitis, but she hasn't had the diverticulitus for a while. Do you have any suggestions we can put to the local doctors here as to what to check for?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
It is Acute gastritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on HealthcareMagic.
The symptoms you described about your mother looks like acute gastritis which does happen after certain age as the gastric motility comes down.
And usually it cannot be seen on ultrasound it requires an endoscopy to diagnose it which need not be necessary if she responds to the medication which I will recommend.
Since a basic ultrasound is negative there is nothing to worry.
Please start her on Tab Esmoperazole 40mg daily half an hour before food for 2 weeks.
and Tab Ondansetron 4mg daily for a week
Avoid spicy and oily food.
Hope this helps
Best wishes

Hello
Thanks for your reply. Could the tablets she is on atm be a cause. She is on Endone 5mg once a day at night and Oxycontincr tab 10 mg morning and night. She has been on them from 10.8.2016. She is on these for pain relief for her knee and hip. We suspected these drugs might have had something to do with it??
