Question: I'm 62 years old and have been diabetic for a while. Sometimes My Fasting blood sugar is about 200. I've been asked to take Mclazide (1), ISTAMET (1/2) , TELTEL, rosimit, mitovit. But this is making me feel, nauseous, tired and loss of appetite. Non fasting blood sugar was 255 so this probably wasn't a hypoglycemic event(These symptoms have been for there for 3 days since I started the meds). Is this drug combination suitable or is it too high.
Brief Answer:
It is suitable and would need adjustments
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about all these symptoms that you have been experiencing since starting these new medications. Fro the information you have provided, the dosage seems not to be the problem. This is even more true as the value of you blood sugars are still higher than the desired goal of treatment. Anti diabetic medications are never too unless the blood sugar monitoring suggests so. Also, there is no one dose fits all when it comes to diabetes and its management because you may need a tablet while another person needs as many as 4 tablets of the same drug for good blood sugar control. The main guiding element is the blood sugar values. When they are low, the dosages or number of drugs would be decreased and when they are high, the dosages or drug combinations would be increased. So, monitoring is key to making the right treatment combination and respective drug dosages.
It is not uncommon to feel funny when you start a new drugs. However, this feeling should slowly fade away to enable you to be able to continue to receive the medications as prescribed. If this fails to happen, the treatment would be re-evaluated and adjusted accordingly.
In all, monitoring would guide us to what drugs and dosages would work best for you. If these symptoms should persist, we would evaluate the treatment to identify the cause and address accordingly. This would be capital to ensure that you stay compliant to the prescribed medications.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
